Chiropractic Helps Shoulder Pain

West Palm Beach shoulder pain treatment and recoveryAccording to research, about 2-5 percent of the population will experience painful issues like frozen shoulder syndrome at some time in their lives. That makes shoulder pain a common occurrence and one that Dr. Dennis sees in our West Palm Beach clinic on a regular basis.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Shoulder Pain

Generally, this issue is more prevalent for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and it tends to affect women more frequently than men. While ice, heat, and gentle stretches can often times help alleviate the discomfort, so too can chiropractic care.

As an example, one study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine looked at 50 people with frozen shoulder who were given chiropractic care. The length of care ranged from 11 days to 51 days, with 28 days being the average.

The researchers found that almost all of the study participants fared extremely well with chiropractic care. Here are the results:

8 of the subjects reported 50-75 percent improvement
25 indicated improvement ranging from 75- 90 percent
1 participant had complete resolution of their frozen shoulder pain

Only one of the original 50 reported an improvement of 50 percent or less, so studies like this show just how effective chiropractic can be when it comes to decreasing shoulder pain and increasing quality of life.

Avoid Sciatica Surgery With Chiropractic

Dr. Dennis works with countless sciatica patients here in our West Palm Beach office, and many of these individuals were concerned that they might need surgery to alleviate their pain. The latest research shows that a large number of people don't require surgery for this common issue, and that chiropractic is more effective at resolving sciatic nerve pain.

A typical surgery for sciatica is microdiscectomy, and in a 2010 study, specialists looked at 80 individuals with sciatica who were referred for this procedure.

Forty patients were then randomly placed in one of two groups. The first group received surgical microdiscectomy and the second group received chiropractic care.

Both groups improved; however, no obvious difference in results was reported one year post-treatment between the surgery group and the chiropractic group. Additionally, around sixty percent of the participating patients who could not find relief from any other treatment approach "benefited from spinal manipulation to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention."

In other words, chiropractic offered the same positive benefits as surgery without having to undergo the greater amounts of surgery-based pain or suffer through lengthy recovery times often associated with that specific treatment choice. Plus, you also don't run the risks affiliated with surgical microdiscectomy, which includes nerve root damage, bowel or bladder incontinence, bleeding, or infection.

Surgery should be the last resort for sciatica pain. If you live in West Palm Beach and you're experiencing back pain or sciatica, give Dr. Dennis a call today at (561) 966-6171. We'll help determine the source of your pain and work hard to get you relief.

West Palm Beach Back Pain and Pregnancy Care

West Palm Beach pregnancy and back pain and chiropractic

While many women automatically assume that pregnancy and back pain go hand in hand, they are often surprised when they learn that this is not necessarily the case. In fact, chiropractic can often help alleviate persistant back pain for pregnant women by as much as 85%.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Back Pain and Pregnancy

In our busy West Palm Beach chiropractic office, it isn't uncommon for pregnant women to reach out to Dr. Dennis for help relieving their back pain.

One piece of research published in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies involved 115 women who were pregnant (most of which were in their third trimester) and presented with pain in their low back, pelvic area, or both. Data was gathered prior to the study, as well as one week, one month, three months, and one year after treatment commenced. At each follow-up, the participants were asked to rate their level of pain based on a 7-point scale to determine whether it was better, worse, or stayed the same. The results?

More than half reported that their pain was better after one week of chiropractic treatment. After one month, that amount jumped up to 70 percent, climbing even more to 85 percent showing improvement at the three month mark. Positive effects were still reported at six months post-treatment, which was generally after delivery, and continued to the final data collection one year after treatment commenced.

There are also many additional benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Not only does it effectively ease back pain, but it does it in a completely natural and non-invasive way. This means that you don't have to worry about taking any drugs or undergoing any type of treatment that could potentially harm your unborn child.

Chiropractic and Neck Pain

West Palm Beach chiropractic neck pain treatmentAccording to The American Academy of Pain Medicine, more Americans suffer with chronic pain than diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, and cancer combined. On top of that, neck pain is the third most documented type of pain, beat out only by back problems and headache.

Of course, a lot of patients come to our West Palm Beach office looking for neck pain treatment, and Dr. Dennis has helped many of them find relief. This is a smart choice, as some research indicates that over 90% of neck pain patients benefit from chiropractic care.

Studies Confirm Chiropractic Works

A report published in The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy included 64 individuals who were suffering with neck problems. Roughly half were placed in an experimental group and the other half were assigned to a comparison group. Both were given chiropractic adjustments of the neck as well as a home exercise plan, whereas the experimental group also received adjustments of the thoracic spine.

Data was collected before treatment began and one week after the adjustments. Researchers found that 94% of the experimental group claimed "significantly greater improvements" in regard to pain and disability in their neck symptoms. Just 35% of the individuals who received neck adjustments showed the same level of improvement, showing that looking at the entire spine is an important part of restoring the body's normal function.

Another study posted in Physical Therapy involved 60 participants between the ages of 18 and 60 who were dealing with neck pain. Each individual was randomly assigned to one of two groups--thoracic spine thrust manipulation or non-thrust manipulation--with examinations occurring two and four days after the treatments.

Researchers found that the study participants who received the thrust manipulations (the same manipulations that offered such positive results in the first report) "experienced greater reductions in disability" than the patients who received the non-thrust adjustments. Their pain was lower as well, which shows that this type of technique offers many benefits.

Chiropractic Even Offers Benefits After Failed Neck Surgery

Another study found the same sort of positive outcomes after thoracic adjustments in a woman who had a failed neck surgical treatment. This particular case involved a 46-year-old patient who had recently had neck surgery but still reported neck pain, headaches, pain in her elbow, and muscle fatigue.

The patient documented reduced pain in her neck and lower headache intensity, immediately after the first chiropractic adjustments. After six weeks of care, which involved chiropractic, exercise, and patient education, the patient still placed her pain at a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. Her neck disability improved as well, with a rating score that represented that it was a "great deal better."

It is studies like these that substantiate the effectiveness of chiropractic care, even if you've already attempted neck surgery that didn't provide relief. So, if you are suffering with neck problems and would like to find a solution that has a high success rate, try chiropractic. It may just be the help you're looking for.

We're located in West Palm Beach and Dr. Dennis can help you recover from neck pain. Give us a call today at (561) 966-6171.

Chiropractic Great for Migraines

West Palm Beach natural migraine treatment by Dr. DennisWith the Migraine Research Foundation reporting that migraine headaches affect 38 million people in the U.S. (more than diabetes and asthma put together), it's not surprising that Dr. Dennis sees a lot of migraine patients in our West Palm Beach office. Eventhough some folks choose to relieve migraine pain with drugs, chiropractic is a great, all-natural alternative that consistently produces positive results.

Research Proves Chiropractic Care Helps With Migraines

For instance, one study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics involved 127 people ranging in age from 10 to 70-years-old who struggled with frequent (at least monthly) headaches. Each subject received up to 16 chiropractic sessions. The subjects noted that their headache frequency, duration, and disability two months before the treatments began, during the duration of the sessions (which was two months), and two months post-treatment.

What the authors discovered is that chiropractic adjustments reduced the frequency, duration, and disability of the migraine pain when compared with the control group who didn't receive chiropractic. In addition, this allowed them to take less medication for the pain, offering them an all-natural solution for a chronic condition.

Another report found that a combination of chiropractic and neck massage reduced migraine headaches almost 68%.

If you have migraine pain and are looking for help, call Dr. Dennis today and request an appointment in our West Palm Beach chiropractic office. We'll do what we can to help you become pain-free!

Chiropractic Helps with Knee Pain

West Palm Beach natural knee pain treatmentKnee pain is a frequent issue for patients in our West Palm Beach chiropractic practice, and Dr. Dennis has happily provided many of these folks relief. This is mostly because chiropractic care has been found to help with many types of knee pain.

For instance, some individuals experience pain in and around the knee area due to osteoarthritis. Research has proven that this condition responds very well to chiropractic--and rather quickly, too. In fact, one article published in The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association found that men and women with osteoarthritis in their knees felt significant pain relief and improved function after just two weeks of chiropractic care.

If your knee pain is because of a medial meniscus tear, chiropractic could likely help with that as well. One case found that integrating chiropractic with soft tissue therapy, rest, ice, and compression on the affected knee helped lower the intensity of the pain.

Of course, sometimes a knee replacement surgery is required in order to rectify the problem, and if that's the case, chiropractic care can also help improve the outcome. How?

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Knee Injuries

Medical research has shown that people with low back pain frequently have less positive results after knee surgery. Thus, dealing with your back pain through chiropractic prior to having a total knee arthroplasty can help with your post-surgery healing.

No matter what your knee issue, Dr. Dennis can likely help. Call our West Palm Beach office today and find out what we can do for you!

West Palm Beach Chiropractic Effective for Cervicogenic Headache

We see a great number of individuals with headaches in our West Palm Beach office, and Dr. Dennis has been able to help many of them. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that 50% of all adults have difficulties with some manner of headache problems, so this really isn’t surprising. One of the most typical varieties of headaches which our patients endure is cervicogenic headache which, luckily for us, chiropractic can often help.

What is a Cervicogenic Headache?

A cervicogenic headache is one that starts from problems in the cervical spine. It can easily be caused by an issue with either the spine itself (particularly, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it could be due to a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine creates compression or aggravation of the spinal nerves, which can generate headache pain.

How can you recognize if the headache you are feeling is a cervicogenic headache? Other than obtaining a diagnosis from a healthcare professional, a frequent symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or discomfort in your neck. This is sometimes followed by pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

How Chiropractic Helps

Seeing that cervicogenic headaches will not subside until whatever problem is generating them is remedied, it is crucial to get treatment instead of just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective solution, and one that offers a considerable amount of headache pain relief.

In one study released in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, experts evaluated 80 people who had recurring cervicogenic headaches. One-half received chiropractic care and the other fifty percent engaged in light massage therapy. Each participant was assessed 12 and 24 weeks after the procedures and it was discovered that chiropractic provided the most beneficial results.

In particular, this study noted that chiropractic adjustments offered patients better pain relief and lessened the frequency of headaches that occurred. On top of that, it also mitigated the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.

Chiropractic Works for Ankle Sprains

West Palm Beach natural ankle sprain treatmentWe see quite a few patients in our West Palm Beach office with ankle sprains but Dr. Dennis has had a lot of success helping them heal more quickly. Why are ankle sprains so common and how can your chiropractor help?

According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), an estimated 25,000 men and women in the US sprain their ankles every day. As a matter of fact, these injuries make up almost half of all sports injuries, causing people to spend time away from the activities they enjoy most.

Like any injury, there are many causes of ankle sprains. The most common is inversion, or when the ankle rolls inward. This injury can happen due to one forceful movement, or it can develop over time, and activities that increase the risk for this type of ankle sprain include running and jumping. You're also at risk if you have past ankle injuries, poor posture or balance, weak muscles, and reduced range of motion.

How Can Chiropractic Treatments and Dr. Dennis Help?

A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics set out to discover chiropractic's role when it comes to ankle sprain recovery. The authors enrolled 33 individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 who had a history of ankle inversion sprains, who were experiencing tenderness and/or pain, and had not re-injured the ankle in the previous six weeks.

18 of the subjects were assigned to participate in rehabilitation and the other 15 patients received chiropractic adjustments in addition to rehab. Each individual had five full weeks of treatments, with the rehabilitation group receiving therapy seven days a week and the rehab plus chiropractic group receiving therapy six out of the seven days.

Research Shows Chiropractic Helps With Ankle Sprains

The study found that the people who had both rehabilitation and chiropractic fared the best at the 4-week mark when it came to pain and joint restriction. Also, no bad effects were reported, showing that this treatment option is safe.

Fibromyalgia Treatment with Chiropractic

West Palm Beach natural fibromyalgia treatmentIf you are afflicted by fibromyalgia, you are not alone, as Dr. Dennis sees many patients with this particular problem in our West Palm Beach chiropractic office. As a matter of fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that roughly two percent of all adults in the US have fibromyalgia. Thankfully, chiropractic care is one treatment option that can provide positive results.

Research Proves Chiropractic Eases Fibromyalgia

In a medical study released in mid-2015, 215 adults with fibromyalgia were assessed based on factors ranging from pain to quality of sleep to the levels of depression symptoms or anxiety they felt. Then they were divided into two groups with one group receiving a multi-modal therapy plan for three months and the second group receiving the same approach plus chiropractic adjustments (specifically, to the upper neck tissues) for the same length of time.

The subjects who received chiropractic care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary therapy approach reported greater results in all areas (pain, sleep, depression, and anxiety) at three months post-treatment when compared to the study patients who received multi-modal treatment without chiropractic care. In addition, those positive results were lasting as the people reported continued improvement one full year later.

Fibromyalgia can substantially reduce your quality of life, both psychologically and physically. If you're struggling with fibromyalgia, we might be able to help.

You don't have to suffer! To see what Dr. Dennis can do for your fibromyalgia pain, call our West Palm Beach chiropractic office today.

Chiropractic Care Effective for Herniated Disc Pain

West Palm Beach chiropractic disc herniation treatmentUnfortunately, quite a few of our West Palm Beach patients are familiar with the pain associated with a herniated disc all too well. On a positive note, Dr. Dennis has helped many people with disc pain, and a number of research studies have verified that chiropractic care can help patients recover from this kind of condition.

Research on Herniated Discs and Chiropractic

In one report, a group of doctors from Switzerland recruited 148 patients who were suffering with pain in their low back and legs due to a disc herniation (which was confirmed through magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI). Each individual then received chiropractic adjustments that focused on the area of his or her disc herniation.

Data was gathered after the initial treatment session at set intervals--namely, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 12 weeks, 6 months, and 1 year--to establish what kind of short-term and long-term effects, if any, chiropractic care offers when it comes to treating this particular problem. Among the information obtained was the individual's self-reported changes in both lumbar and leg pain.

The authors found that, overall, the study participants reported "significant improvement" for both types of pain every time the results were collected. In fact, over 90% of the individuals stated that their pain "improved" within the first three months, with 88% still citing improvement one year after their first treatment session.

Even those test subjects who were defined as "chronic" still claimed an improvement in pain at a rate of 89 percent one year beyond when treatment first began. This is the same positive result that was found in the following case study.

Case Study Shows that Chiropractic Benefits Chronic Disc Herniation Symptoms

In this paper, a 26-year-old man had presented with disc herniation symptoms such as pain in the low back, left leg, and left groin area, along with left foot drop and muscle weakness. He had endured these issues for more than two years after sustaining an athletic injury, and his herniated disc was confirmed via MRI.

After receiving chiropractic care, "The patient responded favorably and his multi-symptom complex resolved within 90 days of treatment." Furthermore, the patient was still experiencing relief one year after the chiropractic intervention.

Studies like these show how useful chiropractic can be when it comes to alleviating herniated disc pain and reducing the symptoms they cause. So, if you are suffering from back ache caused by a herniated disc and wish to find some relief, chiropractic may well be an effective solution.

Don't suffer from chronic herniated disc pain. Give our West Palm Beach office a call today at (561) 966-6171 for a consultation or appointment.
